House Speaker Kevin McCarthy predicts that former President Donald Trump will win the Republican Party’s nomination for the 2024 presidential election, setting up a potential rematch between Trump and President Joe Biden.
McCarthy’s prediction comes as Trump is far ahead in the primary polls, beating out all of his competitors in the primary race, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, considered to be the biggest threat to Trump winning the nomination. In explaining his prediction, McCarthy cited Trump’s past achievements when serving in the White House.

We didn’t look weak around the world.”

DeSantis announced his run for president in May and has failed to gain the momentum in the primary race many predicted he would. Trump’s vast lead over DeSantis comes despite the former president facing multiple indictments in court for storing confidential documents at his Mar-a-Lago residence and the Jan. 6 Capitol protest, among other things.
