President Joe Biden acknowledged to donors the concerns reflected in public polling regarding his 80 years of age.
“A lot of people seem focused on my age,” the president told donors on Monday during a Broadway for Biden fundraiser in New York City. “I get it, believe me. I know it more than anyone.”

But Biden remained adamant he “knew what to do” when the COVID-19 pandemic emerged, when Russia invaded Ukraine, and when democracy was undermined by former President Donald Trump, according to pool reports.
“That’s why I’m running,” the president said at Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. “We will have saved American democracy. I am more optimistic about the future of this country than in the 800 years I’ve served.”
Biden similarly alluded to his age during a separate fundraiser hosted by the Biden Victory Fund’s Black Economic Alliance.
“As a United States senator for 360 years, 36 years, I always had great relationships,” the president said at the St. Regis New York. “I’m looking forward to this campaign because we’ve got a story to tell, a record to run on, and a nation to save. That’s not hyperbole,” he added earlier.
