UAW strike: Stel­lan­tis announces plan to lay off dozens and antic­i­pates need­ing to fur­lough hun­dreds

Stel­lan­tis announced it would tem­porar­i­ly lay off 68 work­ers at an assem­bly plant in Ohio as the Unit­ed Auto Work­ers strike nears a week.
The com­pa­ny, which owns brands such as Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep, said the lay­offs would affect the Tole­do Machin­ing Plant in Per­rys­burg, Ohio, and that it “antic­i­pates sim­i­lar actions” will have to be tak­en for 300 employ­ees at two facil­i­ties in Indi­ana. The move comes as the tar­get­ed strike by the UAW enters its sixth day with lit­tle vis­i­ble progress.

“As a con­se­quence of the strike action at the Tole­do Assem­bly Com­plex (TAC), Stel­lan­tis con­firms that it will imme­di­ate­ly tem­porar­i­ly lay off 68 employ­ees at the Tole­do Machin­ing Plant in Per­rys­burg, Ohio, due to stor­age con­straints.
