The RNC has not released the full list of eligible candidates who will appear onstage next week but former President Donald Trump, the current frontrunner, will not attend the second debate. He also snubbed last month’s first debate in Milwaukee, Wisconsin opting to release a prerecorded interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
This time around Trump will hold a primetime speech to more than 500 striking United Auto Workers as the second debate is airing. Trump also plans to skip the third debate according to reporting from Bloomberg. The former president’s decision to skip the first debate has not meaningfully cut into his large lead over all the other 2024 GOP presidential officials.
President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign is tapping Gov. Gavin Newsom (D‑CA) to lead counterprogramming efforts during the second debate.
