Uber Eats slat­ed to start accept­ing SNAP ben­e­fits next year

Food deliv­ery app Uber Eats will be accept­ing Sup­ple­men­tal Nutri­tion Assis­tance Pro­gram ben­e­fits start­ing in 2024.
SNAP ben­e­fits are meant for food, bev­er­ages, and even seeds or plants meant for eat­ing. Most gro­cery stores accept them in the form of EBT cards, while few restau­rants do.

“We know that online food deliv­ery can have a mean­ing­ful impact in reduc­ing bar­ri­ers to fresh gro­ceries, espe­cial­ly for the most vulnerable–including peo­ple liv­ing in food deserts, seniors, and those fac­ing dis­abil­i­ties or trans­porta­tion bar­ri­ers,” a state­ment from the com­pa­ny read. “Help­ing to improve access to qual­i­ty food is incred­i­bly impor­tant to our work at Uber and we’re proud to use Uber’s tech­nol­o­gy and exten­sive local deliv­ery net­works to offer SNAP recip­i­ents the abil­i­ty to use their ben­e­fits to access fresh gro­ceries con­ve­nient­ly from our app in 2024.”
Ben­e­fits are slat­ed to issue their next pay­ment as soon as Oct. 1, with Alas­ka, North Dako­ta, Rhode Island, and Ver­mont kick­ing off the first round. Mean­while, …
