Cruz says he’s tak­ing 2024 race ‘dead­ly seri­ous’ and knows Democ­rats will spend big to try to beat him

Sen. Ted Cruz (R‑TX) says he is up for the chal­lenge Democ­rats will muster against him in his Sen­ate reelec­tion bid.
The Texas Repub­li­can said he is not wor­ried about who the Democ­rats nom­i­nate to run against him in the 2024 Sen­ate race in Texas, because that Demo­c­ra­t­ic can­di­date will have mas­sive fund­ing behind them regard­less. Cruz shared his assess­ment of his upcom­ing Sen­ate elec­tion at the Texas Tri­bune Fes­ti­val in Austin, Texas on Sat­ur­day.

“At the end of the day, I’m not too wor­ried about who wins it because who­ev­er wins it — the Democ­rats could nom­i­nate a ham sand­wich, and they’re gonna raise $100 mil­lion to run against me,” Cruz said.
Cruz also empha­sized how he is tak­ing the 2024 Sen­ate elec­tion “dead­ly seri­ous,” while not­ing the tight­ness of his 2018 reelec­tion bid.
“Texas is a bat­tle­ground and I’ll tell you we are tak­ing this Sen­ate reelec­tions dead­ly seri­ous. My last reelec­tion, as you not­ed, six years ago was at the time, it was the most expen­sive Sen­ate race in U.S. his­to­ry. We were out­raised, we were out­spent three to one,” Cruz said.
