
Rep. Nancy Mace (R‑SC) donned a “scarlet letter” as she headed into a House speaker candidate forum.
Mace wore a large red “A” on her shirt, which she said was her “scarlet letter.” This is in reference to the famous novel by Nathaniel Hawthorne, set in Puritan Massachusetts, in which the protagonist is forced to wear a scarlet letter “A,” for adultery, on her clothes after being charged with the practice.
