NFL’s first trans­gen­der cheer­leader says ‘I’m real­ly chang­ing the world’

Jus­tine Lind­say, the NFL’s first cheer­leader to iden­ti­fy as trans­gen­der, reflect­ed on the first year of cheer­lead­ing with the Car­oli­na Top­Cats, the cheer­lead­ing squad of the Car­oli­na Pan­thers.
“To get those mes­sages, like those DMs in my phone say­ing, ‘Your sto­ry just real­ly empow­ered me to be a bet­ter par­ent for my child,’ and just say, ‘Thank you,’ you know, for my sto­ry. … It does some­thing to you. It real­ly does,” Lind­say said.

“It just lets you know, wow, I’m real­ly chang­ing the world,” added the bio­log­i­cal­ly male cheer­leader who iden­ti­fies as female.
Lind­say cap­tured head­lines as the first trans­gen­der per­son to make an NFL cheer­lead­ing team when join­ing the Top­Cats last year. It was first announced on Lind­say’s Insta­gram in March 2022.
