Trump sues Michigan secretary of state over push to keep him off ballot in 2024

Former President Donald Trump’s lawyers filed a lawsuit Tuesday against Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson for her lack of response to correspondence regarding his 2024 ballot placement.
The suit alleges, “The Secretary’s failure to respond is creating uncertainty, which impacts how President Trump will allocate resources.”

Further, the 63-page filing said, “This uncertainty is compounded by the fact that Secretary Benson is an active member of the opposing major political party and has publicly weighed in with her negative views of President Trump.”
Trump’s lawyers noted there was an effort in Michigan to prevent the former president from appearing on the ballot based on arguments that the 14th Amendment disqualifies him. However, Benson has dismissed such attempts in the past, claiming she doesn’t possess the authority to determine eligibility.
