Biden cam­paign takes vic­to­ry lap on Demo­c­ra­t­ic wins after poor polling

Pres­i­dent Joe Biden’s 2024 reelec­tion cam­paign cheered on a suc­cess­ful elec­tion night for Demo­c­ra­t­ic can­di­dates on Tues­day, say­ing vot­ers chose his agen­da over “MAGA extrem­ism.” The rel­a­tive­ly unex­pect­ed Demo­c­ra­t­ic sweep came after new polling showed the pres­i­dent los­ing to for­mer Pres­i­dent Don­ald Trump in sev­er­al piv­otal states in 2024.
On Elec­tion Day, Ken­tucky vot­ers reelect­ed Gov. Andy Beshear (D‑KY), Vir­ginia Demo­c­ra­t­ic can­di­dates took the House of Del­e­gates and main­tained the major­i­ty in the state Sen­ate, and New Jer­sey Democ­rats expand­ed their major­i­ty and held on to their Demo­c­ra­t­ic tri­fec­ta. In one of the sole Repub­li­can wins, how­ev­er, Gov. Tate Reeves (R‑MS) was reelect­ed in Mis­sis­sip­pi.
