Rep. Clau­dia Ten­ney’s attempt to low­er White House press sec­re­tary salary to $1 fails

Rep. Clau­dia Ten­ney’s (R‑NY) res­o­lu­tion to low­er White House press sec­re­tary Karine Jean-Pier­re’s salary failed.
The House vot­ed 257–165‑1 against Ten­ney’s res­o­lu­tion Thurs­day, and 54 Repub­li­cans vot­ed against it.

“Dur­ing Ms. Jean-Pierre’s tenure as press sec­re­tary, she has repeat­ed­ly lied to the Amer­i­can peo­ple and act­ed in a con­de­scend­ing man­ner towards reporters and also vio­lat­ed the Hatch Act,” Ten­ney said on the House floor ahead of the vote.

The Hatch Act pro­hibits employ­ees of the exec­u­tive branch from pro­mot­ing or dis­cour­ag­ing polit­i­cal activ­i­ty. Accord­ing to Ten­ney, Jean-Pierre has spo­ken dis­parag­ing­ly of “MAGA Repub­li­cans.”
