‘Depressed’ Trump was­n’t eat­ing after 2020 loss, accord­ing to new book from top foe Cheney

Three weeks after the events of Jan. 6, 2021, then-House Speak­er Kevin McCarthy (R‑CA) vis­it­ed for­mer Pres­i­dent Don­ald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Flori­da.
In an upcom­ing book, for­mer Repub­li­can Rep. Liz Cheney reveals that McCarthy took that trip to con­sole Trump, who was “depressed” and “not eat­ing” after he left the White House.

CNN’s Jamie Gan­gel joined The Lead with Jake Tap­per on Tues­day to ana­lyze Cheney’s mem­oir Oath and Hon­or, which is set to be released Dec. 5, and detailed the vis­it she called a “stun­ning anec­dote about Kevin McCarthy.”
“This is a life­line,” Tap­per inter­rupt­ed to add con­text. “Every­one thought that the Repub­li­can Par­ty was going to rid itself of Don­ald Trump. Every­body had spo­ken neg­a­tive­ly about him, but then McCarthy does this and basi­cal­ly … from the ash­es, Don­ald Trump is renewed.”
