Elise Ste­fanik makes strongest case yet to be Trump’s VP: ‘I wouldn’t have done what Mike Pence did’

Rep. Elise Ste­fanik (R‑NY), seen as a pos­si­ble 2024 run­ning mate for for­mer Pres­i­dent Don­ald Trump, bur­nished her loy­al­ty cre­den­tials Thurs­day when she claimed she would not have cer­ti­fied the 2020 elec­tion results if she were vice pres­i­dent on Jan. 6, 2021.

Ste­fanik said on Thurs­day she did not think for­mer Vice Pres­i­dent Mike Pence had the right approach in cer­ti­fy­ing the elec­tion results and would not have made the same deci­sion.  

“I would not have done what Mike Pence did. I don’t think that was the right approach,” Ste­fanik said on CNN. “I specif­i­cal­ly stand by what I said on the House floor.”
