George Santos will leave ’embarrassing’ Republican Party and run in New York as independent

Embat­tled for­mer New York Rep. George San­tos announced Fri­day he is leav­ing the Repub­li­can Par­ty, say­ing the “embar­rass­ing” dis­play by the House GOP pass­ing a $1.2 tril­lion spend­ing deal made him bolt.
“After today’s embar­rass­ing show­ing in the house I have reflect­ed and decid­ed that I can no longer be part of the Repub­li­can Par­ty … The Repub­li­can Par­ty con­tin­ues to lie and swin­dle its vot­er base,” San­tos post­ed on X.
“I in good con­science can­not affil­i­ate myself with a par­ty that stands for noth­ing and falls for every­thing,” the for­mer con­gress­man added.
San­tos was oust­ed last year from Con­gress fol­low­ing the release of a scathing Ethics Com­mit­tee report that found “sub­stan­tial evi­dence” that San­tos had know­ing­ly filed false or incom­plete reports to the Fed­er­al Elec­tion Com­mis­sion, used cam­paign funds f …
