Mike Gallagher Announces Resignation, Shrinks Republicans’ House Majority

Rep. Mike Gal­lagher (R‑WI) announced on Fri­day that he is resign­ing from Con­gress next month, which fur­ther shrinks the major­i­ty that Repub­li­cans have in the House.
The news comes after Gal­lagher announced last month that he would not seek re-elec­tion after he cast a cru­cial vote against impeach­ing Depart­ment of Home­land Secu­ri­ty Sec­re­tary Ale­jan­dro May­orkas.
“After con­ver­sa­tions with my fam­i­ly, I have made the deci­sion to resign my posi­tion as a mem­ber of the House of Rep­re­sen­ta­tives for Wisconsin’s Eighth Con­gres­sion­al Dis­trict effec­tive April 19, 2024,” Gal­lagher said in a state­ment.
