Dozens shot over dead­ly Chica­go East­er week­end

Chica­go expe­ri­enced a vio­lent East­er week­end, with 33 peo­ple being shot, accord­ing to police.
Sev­en of those shot were killed, Chica­go police announced, per ABC 7 Chica­go. The major­i­ty of the shoot­ings occurred between 8 p.m. Sat­ur­day and 6 a.m. Sun­day.
One of the shoot­ings was a mass shoot­ing, killing one woman, 19, and injur­ing four oth­ers. The sus­pect opened fire at the group, who were in a busi­ness, at approx­i­mate­ly 1 a.m. Police said the cir­cum­stances of the shoot­ing weren’t known, and no one is in cus­tody.
The lev­el of the vio­lence drew nation­al atten­tion, with Rep. Jim Jor­dan (R‑OH) blam­ing it on the Demo­c­ra­t­ic lead­er­ship of the city.
“33 shot. 7 killed. East­er week­end,” Jor­dan wrote on X. “Demo­c­rat-run Chica­go.”
