Rust armorer in Alec Baldwin film sentenced to 18 months in prison

The armor­er for the film Rust has been sen­tenced to 18 months in prison, about two and a half years after a fatal shoot­ing occurred on the film’s set.
Han­nah Gutier­rez-Reed, 27, had “repeat­ed­ly” failed to main­tain prop­er firearm safe­ty, which led to the death of cin­e­matog­ra­ph­er Haly­na Hutchins, 42, pros­e­cu­tors claimed in the case. The 2021 shoot­ing occurred when actor Alec Bald­win was hold­ing a .45 Colt cal­iber F.lli Piet­ta sin­gle-action revolver dur­ing a rehearsal on set when the gun fired and hit Hutchins in the chest.
“You alone turned a safe weapon into a lethal weapon,” Judge Mary Mar­lowe Som­mer said.
