Impeached Mayorkas deflects to ‘domestic’ extremism when asked about Middle East threats

Fresh­ly impeached Home­land Secu­ri­ty Sec­re­tary Ale­jan­dro May­orkas deflect­ed to fears of “domes­tic vio­lent extrem­ism” Wednes­day when asked if the nation is threat­ened by over­seas vio­lence as Iran and Israel engage in open con­flict.
“Is there an increased risk in Amer­i­ca of some sort of an attack tied to sym­pa­thies in the Mid­dle East?” CBS Morn­ings co-host Tony Dok­oupil asked May­orkas.
“We have seen an increase in anti­semitism,” May­orkas replied. “We have seen an increase in Islam­o­pho­bia fol­low­ing the Oct. 7 ter­ror­ist attacks.”

There is “no ques­tion” sen­ti­ments includ­ing anti­semitism and Islam­o­pho­bia have placed the secu­ri­ty of the Unit­ed States in a pre­car­i­ous posi­tion, accord­ing to May­orkas.
