Trump defends Johnson’s foreign aid bill negotiations: ‘He’s trying very hard’

House Speak­er Mike John­son (R‑LA) has acquired a crit­i­cal defend­er.
Speak­ing in a radio inter­view on Mon­day, for­mer Pres­i­dent Don­ald Trump sought to take the heat off of the embat­tled speak­er, who remains on the receiv­ing end of a tire­less cam­paign to evict him from his job by Rep. Mar­jorie Tay­lor Greene (R‑GA).
“Well, look, we have a major­i­ty of one, OK?” Trump said. “It’s not like he can go and do what­ev­er he wants to do. I think he’s a very good per­son. You know, he stood very strong­ly with me on NATO when I said NATO has to pay up. … I think he’s try­ing very hard.”
