Arizona voters are worried about more than abortion as Republicans see opening in crucial state

While Ari­zona Democ­rats are antic­i­pat­ing that an expect­ed bal­lot mea­sure guar­an­tee­ing abor­tion access up until fetal via­bil­i­ty will dri­ve vot­ers to the polls this Novem­ber, vot­ers have oth­er press­ing con­cerns they want addressed.
Ari­zo­nans have expressed greater dis­sat­is­fac­tion in the econ­o­my and the immi­gra­tion poli­cies under the Biden admin­is­tra­tion. A Wall Street Jour­nal sur­vey of swing-state vot­ers in March found that 60% of Ari­zona res­i­dents believed the state is head­ed in the wrong direc­tion, mak­ing it the most neg­a­tive assess­ment among the sev­en bat­tle­ground states. Near­ly half of res­i­dents said Arizona’s econ­o­my has got­ten worse. 
This sur­vey comes as the semi­con­duc­tor indus­try in Ari­zona is thriv­ing thanks to fund­ing from the bipar­ti­san CHIPS and Sci­ence Act passed in 2022, and the state is set to receive tens of bil­lions of dol­lars in invest­ment, unem­ploy­ment is near his­toric lows, and the state has drawn hun­dreds of thou­sands of new res­i­dents since 2020.
