CNN analyst contends ‘miserable’ economic prospects are hurting Biden’s support

CNN ana­lyst Van Jones argued that Pres­i­dent Joe Biden has not yet secured the sup­port of young vot­ers ahead of the 2024 elec­tion, which is par­tial­ly due to the “mis­er­able” eco­nom­ic prospects these peo­ple are fac­ing.
Jones had been asked about recent polling data that found for­mer Pres­i­dent Don­ald Trump ahead of Biden among vot­ers ages 18–29, with the for­mer pres­i­dent at 46% and Biden at 43%. Trump is also just behind Biden among His­pan­ic vot­ers by only 3 per­cent­age points in the poll, with Jones sug­gest­ing that the new data should be “a wake-up call” ahead of the elec­tion.
“Young peo­ple are upset, and it’s not just the sit­u­a­tion in Gaza,” Jones said. “The eco­nom­ic prospects for young peo­ple are mis­er­able. And that‘s been build­ing under Oba­ma. It’s been build­ing under Trump. It’s build­ing under Biden. We just do not have a path­way for young peo­ple to be able to pay off their stu­dent debt, get a house, peo­ple are look­ing at this AI wave and are wor­ried about what job, what career path, and so that pain has to be spo­ken to direct­ly and specif­i­cal­ly.”
