EXCLUSIVE — A group of House Repub­li­cans from Cal­i­for­nia are urg­ing Gov. Gavin New­som (D‑CA) to sus­pend the state’s annu­al gas tax increase as res­i­dents grap­ple with the nation’s high­est gas prices in the coun­try.
In a let­ter sent to New­som on Thurs­day, all 11 House Repub­li­cans from Cal­i­for­nia urged New­som to sus­pend a pair of gas tax increas­es that are expect­ed to hit the Gold­en State lat­er this year: the annu­al gas tax increase, which is expect­ed to see a slight increase the begin­ning of July, as well as anoth­er 47-cent increase stem­ming from recent Low Car­bon Fuel Stan­dard reforms.
