Biden faces small but grow­ing group of uncom­mit­ted del­e­gates at DNC con­ven­tion

Although Pres­i­dent Joe Biden has long clinched enough del­e­gates for the Demo­c­ra­t­ic pres­i­den­tial nom­i­na­tion, there remains a per­sis­tent thorn plagu­ing his cam­paign.
At the August Demo­c­ra­t­ic Nation­al Con­ven­tion, there will be a small con­tin­gent of uncom­mit­ted del­e­gates, serv­ing as a reminder that the Demo­c­ra­t­ic Par­ty remains split over the Israel–Hamas war.
ELECTION 2024: FOLLOW LATEST COVERAGE
So far dur­ing the non­com­pet­i­tive Demo­c­ra­t­ic pri­ma­ry sea­son, more than 682,000 peo­ple have cast an “uncom­mit­ted” vote or opt­ed to write in a can­di­date.
It’s a notable show­ing giv­en that the nation­al uncom­mit­ted move­ment was most­ly based in a hand­ful of states, includ­ing Mary­land, Michi­gan, Min­neso­ta, New Jer­sey, New Mex­i­co, Penn­syl­va­nia, Ore­gon, Wis­con­sin, and Wash­ing­ton.
Oth­er states cre­at­ed “Aban­don Biden” or “Leave it Blank” move­ments with the sim­i­lar goal of protest vot­ing against Biden due to the Israel-Hamas war.
