Hogan try­ing to cap­ture Mary­land Democ­rats with warn­ing to his own par­ty

For­mer Mary­land Gov. Lar­ry Hogan is warn­ing the GOP it shouldn’t take his vote for grant­ed as he cam­paigns to flip a Sen­ate seat in the deep blue state. 
“I want to say this upfront: In the Sen­ate, Repub­li­cans can’t count on my vote,” the GOP Sen­ate nom­i­nee for Mary­land said in a cam­paign ad released on Tues­day. 
“But then again, nei­ther can Democ­rats,” Hogan added. “If they want my vote, they will have to do what is right for Mary­land, not one polit­i­cal par­ty.” 
Hogan’s cam­paign told the Wash­ing­ton Exam­in­er in a state­ment on Tues­day, “The mes­sage in this ad shouldn’t come as a sur­prise to any­one. For eight years, Gov. Hogan put Mary­land first and pri­or­i­tized the issues that are impor­tant to Mary­land over par­ty pol­i­tics or par­ti­san talk­ing points. He will be the same inde­pen­dent leader in the Unit­ed States Sen­ate.”
