Biden turns to Hollywood to counter Trump conviction fundraising surge

Pres­i­dent Joe Biden is hop­ing the sequel will live up to the orig­i­nal when it comes to his campaign’s block­buster Hol­ly­wood fundrais­er star­ring for­mer Pres­i­dent Barack Oba­ma, George Clooney, and Julia Roberts.
A sim­i­lar­ly star-stud­ded event in New York in March that also includ­ed for­mer Pres­i­dent Bill Clin­ton helped Biden raise a record $26 mil­lion. But since then, for­mer Pres­i­dent Don­ald Trump, Biden’s 2024 Repub­li­can rival, has expe­ri­enced a cash bonan­za, rais­ing $53 mil­lion dur­ing the first 24 hours after he was con­vict­ed in his hush mon­ey tri­al in May alone.
The star pow­er of Clooney, Roberts, and even Oba­ma for Biden’s fundrais­er in Los Ange­les on Sat­ur­day is “huge” for his cam­paign and his cam­paign cof­fers, accord­ing to Uni­ver­si­ty of South­ern Cal­i­for­nia polit­i­cal sci­ence pro­fes­sor Chris­t­ian Grose.
“The celebri­ties help cre­ate an excite­ment around the event and like­ly yield more dona­tions,” Grose told the Wash­ing­ton Exam­in­er.
