Virginia’s tax-free week­end: What to know

Vir­ginia shop­pers can save mon­ey on back-to-school sup­plies dur­ing the state’s sales tax hol­i­day this week­end.
The 3‑day tax hol­i­day on cer­tain items will take place from Aug. 2 to Aug. 4.
This year’s eli­gi­ble goods include qual­i­fy­ing school sup­plies, cloth­ing, hur­ri­cane and emer­gency pre­pared­ness items, and Ener­gy Star or WaterSense prod­ucts. 
Here’s a com­plete list of items that will be sold with­out sales tax across the state:

School sup­plies for $20 or less per item
Cloth­ing and shoes for $100 or less per item
Qual­i­fy­ing Ener­gy Star or WaterSense prod­ucts pur­chased for non­com­mer­cial home or per­son­al use for $2,500 or less per item
Portable gen­er­a­tors for $1,000 or less per item
Gas-pow­ered chain­saws for $350 or …
