Com­er Announces Probe into Whether Har­ris Did ‘Any­thing’ To Address Bor­der Cri­sis

The GOP-led House is embark­ing on an inves­ti­ga­tion into Vice Pres­i­dent Kamala Har­ris over her role in the Biden administration’s strug­gle to get a grip on the bor­der cri­sis.
House Over­sight Chair­man James Com­er (R‑KY) announced the probe on Tues­day in a let­ter addressed to U.S. Cus­toms and Bor­der Pro­tec­tion (CBP) Senior Offi­cial Per­form­ing the Duties of the Com­mis­sion­er Troy Miller, request­ing doc­u­ments and com­mu­ni­ca­tions between CBP and the Exec­u­tive Office of the Vice Pres­i­dent relat­ed to the south­west bor­der or ille­gal immi­gra­tion.
Pres­i­dent Joe Biden tasked Har­ris with lead­ing efforts to deal with Mex­i­co and oth­er coun­tries to stem the tide of migra­tion to the south­ern U.S. bor­der in March 2021. At the time, Har­ris said the gov­ern­ment “must address the root caus­es … that cause peo­ple to make the trek.” Har­ris faced crit­i­cism, par­tic­u­lar­ly from Repub­li­cans, in the years since as prob­lems with migra­tion per­sist­ed. …
