FACT CHECK: Video Claims To Show Aftermath Of Airstrikes On Syrian Rebels

A video shared on X claims to show the after­math of airstrikes on Syr­i­an rebels.

Ver­dict: False

The orig­i­nal video appears to be have tak­en in 2021. It alleged­ly shows Hezbol­lah being hit by Israeli attacks.

Fact Check:

Syr­i­an rebels have tak­en a large swathe of ter­ri­to­ry from Syr­i­an dic­ta­tor Bashar Al-Assad in north­ern Syr­ia, includ­ing the city of Alep­po, accord­ing to NPR.

Social media users are claim­ing to show Syr­i­an rebels after they were hit by airstrikes, pre­sum­ably from Syr­i­an regime or Russ­ian forces. (RELATED: Pho­to Shows Leonar­do DiCaprio With His Niece, Not Gre­ta Thun­berg)

“Urgent now…God is Great Exter­mi­na­tion of hun­dreds of ter­ror­ists in Idlib War­planes destroyed 3 columns of ter­ror­ist orga­ni­za­tions con­sist­ing of dozens of vehi­cles and vehi­cles loaded with ammu­ni­tion, equip­ment and ter­ror­ist ele­ments in the east­ern Idlib coun­try­side, which led to the com­plete destruc­tion of the columns,” reads one user’s post. 

This claim is false. Through a reverse image search, Check Your Fact found that the video is from March 2021. The per­son who post­ed it self-describes them­selves as an “inde­pen­dent jour­nal­ist” and said that it was an Israeli attack.

“#Hezbol­lah is exam­in­ing live accu­rate bal­lis­tic #mis­sile fire in real con­di­tions in north­ern #Syr­ia. Israel is tak­ing care to destroy pre­ci­sion kits even as they make their way from #Iran to Lebanon and pass through the lands of Iraq and Syr­ia,” reads the tweet.
