Welker had last interviewed the incoming president in September 2023 and was a presidential debate moderator in the October 2020 debate between Trump and President Joe Biden.
She had an interview with Vice President-elect J.D. Vance on Oct. 27 when he made the Sunday show rounds on CNN, CBS, and NBC.
The NBC host revealed that she had received numerous texts from Democrats who were “panicked” about Vance’s CBS News Vice Presidential debate performance on Oct. 1 because they worried about how “likeable” he was in the debate against Democratic vice presidential nominee Gov. Tim Walz (D‑MN).
Trump and Vance reportedly sat down for at least 105 interviews between August and Election Day, doing a mix of traditional media outlets and influencer podcasters, including Joe Rogan.
In the Nov. 18 interview, Trump said he felt he has an obligation to work with the press even though some in the media have treated him “badly beyond comprehension.”

“In order to Make America Great Again, it is very important, if not vital, to have a free, fair, and open media or press,” Trump said.
MSNBC hosts of Morning Joe Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski were widely criticized by Democrats for meeting with Trump in Palm Beach after the election. Trump said they had requested the meeting and it was “extremely cordial.” MSNBC has seen its lowest ratings in two decades following the election.
