Trump Praised For His Army Secretary Pick

President-elect Donald Trump announced on Wednesday that he has nominated Daniel P. Driscoll of North Carolina to serve as the Secretary of the Army.

“As a former Soldier, Investor, and Political Advisor, Dan brings a powerful combination of experiences to serve as a disruptor and change agent,” Trump said in a statement. “Dan will be a fearless and relentless fighter for America’s Soldiers and the America First agenda.”

Driscoll graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in three years before joining the U.S. Army and completing Army Ranger school.

After deploying with the 10th Mountain Division in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, Driscoll returned home and attended Yale Law School on the Post‑9/11 GI Bill.

“Dan has worked in venture capital and private equity, and most recently has been serving as Senior Advisor to Vice President-Elect JD Vance,” Trump added. “Hailing from Boone, NC, Dan is married to his high school sweetheart, Dr. Cassie Driscoll, a plastic surgeon. They have two beautiful children, Daniel Jr. and Lila.”

Trump was praised by U.S. senators for nominating Driscoll to the position, including by Sen. Thom Tillis (R‑NC), who called Driscoll “a great choice!”

“Congratulations to my friend and fellow North Carolinian Dan Driscoll on being nominated as Secretary of the Army,” said Sen. Ted Budd (R‑NC).

“Dan honorably served our nation in uniform and has what it takes to lead the U.S. Army,” Budd added. “Looking forward to his hearing before the Armed Services Committee.”

Sen. Eric Schmitt (R‑MO) said in a post on X: “Dan Driscoll will make a fantastic Secretary of the Army. He has the right experience—including as a soldier in combat—to bring the change and refocus on warfighting that the Army desperately needs. I look forward to seeing his confirmation through to the finish line.”
