UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson shot and killed in Manhattan

Bri­an Thomp­son, the chief exec­u­tive of Unit­ed­Health­care, was shot and killed in Mid­town Man­hat­tan on Wednes­day morn­ing.

Thomp­son was shot in the chest just after 6:45 a.m. out­side the New York Hilton Mid­town, accord­ing to the police report obtained by the New York Times. Thomp­son was then tak­en to Mount Sinai West in crit­i­cal con­di­tion.

The gun­man ran away east on Sixth Avenue wear­ing a cream-col­ored jack­et, gray back­pack, and black face mask. Police are still search­ing for the sus­pect and believe Thomp­son was tar­get­ed in the attack.

Thomp­son was pro­mot­ed to chief exec­u­tive offi­cer of Unit­ed­Health­care in April 2021, but has been with the com­pa­ny since 2004.

Unit­ed­Health­care is one of the nation’s largest cor­po­ra­tions and pro­vides phar­ma­cy, insur­ance and retire­ment ben­e­fits. In 2023 the com­pa­ny had a rev­enue of $372 bil­lion.
