
Brian Thompson, the chief executive of UnitedHealthcare, was shot and killed in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday morning.
Thompson was shot in the chest just after 6:45 a.m. outside the New York Hilton Midtown, according to the police report obtained by the New York Times. Thompson was then taken to Mount Sinai West in critical condition.
The gunman ran away east on Sixth Avenue wearing a cream-colored jacket, gray backpack, and black face mask. Police are still searching for the suspect and believe Thompson was targeted in the attack.

Thompson was promoted to chief executive officer of UnitedHealthcare in April 2021, but has been with the company since 2004.
UnitedHealthcare is one of the nation’s largest corporations and provides pharmacy, insurance and retirement benefits. In 2023 the company had a revenue of $372 billion.
