Sales over the hol­i­day week­end saw almost 200,000,000 shop­pers, The Nation­al Retail Fed­er­a­tion report­ed. Black Fri­day was the most pop­u­lar day of shop­ping in both in-stores and online, with Cyber Mon­day being the sec­ond.

A post shared on Face­book alleged­ly shows a mas­sive riot that took place dur­ing a Black Fri­day sale.

The cap­tion reads, “This is what Black Fri­day door bust­ing deals looks like in Chica­go.”

The claim is inac­cu­rate. The video dates back to May 2020 when Ben Pope, a reporter for the Chica­go Sun-Times, post­ed the video on his X account.

It was tak­en dur­ing a riot that occurred after the death of George Floyd. Riots and loot­ing occurred in many cities at this time, accord­ing to Fox News.

Some reports indi­cate that riots occur­ring after Floyd’s death caused over $1 bil­lion in dam­ages, Axios report­ed. Protests took place in 140 U.S. cities.
