FACT CHECK: Economist Cover Of Trump And Putin Is Fake

FACT CHECK: Economist Cover Of Trump And Putin Is Fake

An image shared on Facebook claims to show a cover from The Economist of President-elect Donald Trump and Russian strongman Vladimir Putin.

Verdict: False

The Economist did not publish any such cover.

Fact Check:

Social media users are claiming to show a published cover of The Economist that warns of “Apocalypse” with Putin and Trump in the image.

“‘The Economist’ warms up the audience with apocalyptic images. But what does Trump have to do with it if Biden’s gang is starting a nuclear war? Apparently, this is what they are going to leave Trump as an inheritance,” reads one user’s post.

There is no evidence that the Economist published this cover. Check Your Fact reviewed the Economist’s website and did not find any such cover, with the most recent cover showing Argentinian President Javier Milei. The Economist’s most recent cover featuring Trump was titled “Welcome to Trump’s World” and does not have Putin there.

The most recent cover featuring both Trump and Putin is from February 2024. It was titled “Is Europe Ready” and does not show any of the stories that are listed on the fake Economist cover. Furthermore, the post’s fake Economist cover features several typos, which adds to the evidence that it is not genuine.
