Authorities test DNA sample suspected to belong to UnitedHealthcare CEO shooter

Authorities test DNA sample suspected to belong to UnitedHealthcare CEO shooter

The shooter is still at large, but authorities believe that the man responsible for Thompson’s assassination was caught on security camera footage from a New York City hostel wearing a hooded jacket and smiling. Authorities collected a fake ID and phone.

While this man’s identity remains a mystery, authorities believe he arrived in New York City on Nov. 24, using a fake ID to check into the hostel. He had arrived on a bus from Atlanta, Georgia, but it is unclear when he boarded.

The manhunt stretched into its third day, with authorities continuing to shift through tips.

Mayor Eric Adams said the investigation is “on the right track”

“This person was fully masked, and we used good old-fashioned police work to come up with the picture you have,” Adams said in an interview on Spectrum News NY1.

On Wednesday morning at around 6:45 a.m., Thompson was shot outside of the New York Hilton. He was in town for his company’s investor conference.

Authorities uncovered bullet casings at the scene with the words “delay” and “deny” written on them. These words are possible references to how insurance companies will process claims for coverage. It is also similar to the name of a 2010 book called Delay, Deny, Defend by Jay Feinman, which walks through how insurance companies handle claims.

“All insurance companies have an incentive to chisel their customers in order to increase profits,” an excerpt on the book’s website says.
