Trump to become first sitting president to attend Super Bowl

Pres­i­dent Don­ald Trump is set to attend this Sunday’s annu­al Super Bowl in New Orleans, mak­ing him the first sit­ting pres­i­dent to do so.

Super Bowl LIX will pit the Kansas City Chiefs against the Philadel­phia Eagles, set­ting the stage for a pos­si­ble his­toric three-peat vic­to­ry as Super Bowl cham­pi­ons for the Chiefs. How­ev­er, Trump’s atten­dance at the game would be a first for the pres­i­dent of the Unit­ed States and would come less than a month after Trump returned to the White House.

As for who could join the pres­i­dent in his vis­it to New Orleans, House Speak­er Mike John­son (R‑LA) is in talks to ven­ture out with Trump to the big game.

The Wash­ing­ton Exam­in­er has reached out to White House press sec­re­tary Karo­line Leav­itt for com­ment.

Trump is already con­firmed to give a pregame Super Bowl inter­view with Fox News host Bret Baier, which will air at 3 p.m. ET on Sun­day. Fox News tele­vi­sion affil­i­ates will air Super Bowl LIX, and the game can also be streamed on Tubi or the NFL app.

The pres­i­dent is no stranger to enjoy­ing a foot­ball game. Trump attend­ed the annu­al Army-Navy foot­ball game in Decem­ber, where he was joined by Vice Pres­i­dent JD Vance and Marine vet­er­an Daniel Pen­ny. Trump also attend­ed the matchup between the New York Jets and the Pitts­burgh Steel­ers on the same day as his viral McDonald’s shift.

This year’s Super Bowl in New Orleans comes about a month after a New Year’s Day ter­ror attack in the city that killed 14 peo­ple and injured anoth­er 35. Home­land Secu­ri­ty Sec­re­tary Kristi Noem, in a video post­ed to X, said that the game will be a “safe event” for the over 70,000 atten­dees at the Cae­sars Super­dome, where the game is being held.
