Trump wel­comes expand­ed exec­u­tive pow­er to push out fed­er­al employ­ees

Pres­i­dent Don­ald Trump embraced the Supreme Court‘s deci­sion in Trump v. Slaugh­ter that expands his exec­u­tive pow­er to fire mem­bers of some inde­pen­dent fed­er­al bodies.“BIG WIN just moments ago at the Supreme Court, in the Slaugh­ter Case, con­firm­ing Pres­i­den­tial Pow­er in our Coun­try to remove Exec­u­tive Branch Offi­cers and Agency Appointees, or Rep­re­sen­ta­tives, under Arti­cle II,” Trump wrote on Truth Social in ref­er­ence to the Con­sti­tu­tion. “This Deci­sion was long sought by Unit­ed States Pres­i­dents, dat­ing all the way back to the 1930s.”The Supreme Court’s deci­sion per­mits Trump to fire Fed­er­al Trade Com­mis­sion­er Rebec­ca Kel­ly Slaugh­ter and, by exten­sion, oth­er inde­pen­dent agency employ­ees.
Trump added Mon­day that it was “such an Hon­or” to be the pres­i­dent who won “this His­toric and Unprece­dent­ed Rul­ing, one of the most impor­tant ever giv­en with respect to Pres­i­den­tial Pow­ers.”
