There have been count­less com­par­isons between the late Pres­i­dent Richard Nixon and Pres­i­dent Don­ald Trump, due to their cun­ning, guile, and Machi­avel­lian approach­es to pol­i­tics. Nixon him­self, in a 1987 let­ter to Trump, a then-celebri­ty busi­ness­man, saw a polit­i­cal future for the younger man in response to a Phil Don­ahue Show tele­vi­sion appear­ance.
