California school district to vote on Planned Parenthood high school location

A California school district will vote on instituting an on-campus Planned Parenthood location Monday night.

The Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District is considering a proposal to open a Planned Parenthood clinic at John Glenn High School.

Abortion is not listed as a service that the proposed clinic would provide. However, it does note that the clinic may make referrals for medical procedures at other Planned Parenthood facilities.

The seven-member school board will decide whether to enter into a five-year contract with the abortion provider and reproductive care company, which will need to be renewed every five years thereafter.

If approved, the clinic will be authorized to diagnose and treat sexually transmitted diseases, prescribe and dispense medication, and insert “non-surgical long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCS), including, without limitation, IUDs.”

Furthermore, the location would provide “referrals for additional medical or other health care services where indicated. Provider may make referrals to other health centers operated by Provider for services not offered at the Schools.”

Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District Superintendent John Lopez did not respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.

Planned Parenthood Los Angeles is listed on the proposal as the provider.

In 2019, the location announced a mission to establish 50 “well-being centers” at local high schools with the goal “to create a safe space in each school where students can receive the education and health services they need to lead healthy lives.”

“Clinicians from PPLA will provide a range of sexual health services one day a week, including testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections (STIs), emergency contraception and birth control counseling and provision, well-person exams, pregnancy testing, and pregnancy options counseling,” according to a press release.
