Meghan McCain slams Prince Harry’s UN address as ‘wildly insulting’

Meghan McCain slammed a speech from Britain’s Prince Harry to people in the United States after he criticized the Supreme Court’s recent reversal of Roe v. Wade.

The remarks were “wildly insulting to the undoubtedly few Americans, who may have been watching,” McCain wrote in a column for the Daily Mail in reference to Harry’s address in front of the United Nations that was supposed to honor the late anti-apartheid activist and former South African President Nelson Mandela.

“From the horrific war in Ukraine to the rolling back of a constitutional right in the U.S., we are witnessing a global assault on democracy and freedom — the cause of Mandela’s life,” the British prince had said.

McCain, the daughter of the late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), chastized Harry, who lives in California with his wife, Meghan Markle, after stepping down as a working royal, for “virtue-signaling” and reminded him that the U.S. was not his home country.

“It is hard for me to understand why anyone should care what the Duke of Sussex thinks — let alone what he thinks about America,” Meghan McCain said in the column published Monday. “He has lived here all of 20 minutes, yet he has decided that makes him an expert. Just because one may disagree with the outcome of a Supreme Court ruling, does not make it a threat to democracy.”

Meghan McCain added that the royal was not a U.S. citizen and argued that the Supreme Court’s decision to return the issue of abortion access to the states was not a “threat to democracy — that is democracy in action.”
