Stimulus update 2022: New direct $3,200 one-time check payment to be sent out next month

The state of Alaska is gearing up to give eligible people a round of $3,200 checks beginning next month.
The state’s legislature had approved the annual budget in May, and included in the budget was a provision of $3,200 payments for eligible residents before the end of 2022. The budget was then approved by Gov. Mike Dunleavy (R-AK), and residents can expect the direct payments in their bank accounts on Sept. 20, according to Alaska Public Media.
“This budget is more than a spending plan; it’s a blueprint for Alaska’s future. Budgets should reflect the values and ambitions of the people they are designed for, and I believe this legislation accomplishes that,” the governor said.

For those who will receive their money via paper checks, they will have to wait until October before they receive their payment.
Alaska’s Senate had initially approved payments of $5,500 to eligible residents. However, the state House would not sign on to it, leading to the payment being negotiated down to $3,200 by both chambers, according to the outlet.

The payment, which is the second-largest in the state’s history when adjusted for inflation, is funded by the Permanent Fund dividend, the outlet stated.
