$1,500 direct payments being sent out to families now in New Mexico

New Mexico rolled out a rebate program in which eligible participants can collect as much as $1,500 for 2022.

The rebate comes from a law passed this year to provide stimulus rebates to families amid rampant inflationary pressures pinching pocketbooks across the nation. To receive a payment, residents of New Mexico first had to file their 2021 New Mexico income taxes and meet the necessary income threshold.

“We know how much New Mexicans need this help, and we are working as quickly as possible to get these rebates and relief payments into their hands,” Secretary of Taxation and Revenue Stephanie Schardin Clarke said in a press release.

Rebates were expected in three separate payments and slated to be doled out in May, June, and August, respectively. Single filers with incomes up to $75,000 could receive three sets of $250 payments, while joint filers with incomes of $150,000 and lower can collect three sets of $500 payments.

In other words, individuals can collect up to $750, while married couples can collect up to $1,500 from the 2022 rebate program, according to New Mexico officials.

Additionally, New Mexico had a relief program payment, but the deadline, which was set on May 31, 2022, has already passed. Payments were slated to go out by July 4 and included up to $500 for individuals and $1,000 for families. The state government allocated $20 million to the program.
