‘They don’t call us women anymore’: Bette Midler says women are being erased

Actress Bette Midler called on all women to fight gender-neutralizing terms that would “erase” them and their bodily rights.

“WOMEN OF THE WORLD! We are being stripped of our rights over our bodies, our lives and even of our name!” Midler tweeted Monday.

“They don’t call us ‘women’ anymore; they call us ‘birthing people’ or ‘menstruators’, and even ‘people with vaginas’!” she continued. “Don’t let them erase you! Every human on earth owes you!”

The actress’s tweet was slammed for being “anti-trans.”

“No,” drag queen and LGBT rights activist Panti Bliss-Cabrera replied. “Don’t fall for the anti-trans panic fake nonsense. No one is erasing women. In a few small healthcare cases where appropriate they are using trans inclusive language. That’s all.”

Author Julie DiCaro tweeted: “With all due respect, Bette, trans-inclusive language doesn’t take anything away from us.”

Shortly after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in late June, Midler suggested a new policy to target male reproduction, saying it is “time to ban viagra.”

Midler also criticized the Supreme Court for being “tone-deaf to the will and even the actual needs of the American people.”
