Former RNC chairwoman joins NBC as on-air contributor following Trump rejig

For­mer Repub­li­can Nation­al Com­mit­tee Chair­woman Ron­na McDaniel is join­ing NBC News as an on-air con­trib­u­tor after she resigned from her posi­tion with­in the GOP.
McDaniel will add a con­ser­v­a­tive voice to NBC’s line­up of polit­i­cal ana­lysts. She is also expect­ed to appear on MSNBC, the left-lean­ing affil­i­ate of the net­work.
“It couldn’t be a more impor­tant moment to have a voice like Ronna’s on the team,” Car­rie Bud­off Brown, who over­sees NBC News’s polit­i­cal cov­er­age, wrote in a memo. She also added that McDaniel would add “an insider’s per­spec­tive on nation­al pol­i­tics and the future of the Repub­li­can Par­ty.”
McDaniel stepped down from her posi­tion as chair­woman ear­li­er this month after for­mer Pres­i­dent Don­ald Trump shook up RNC lead­er­ship. Michael What­ley and Lara Trump, the for­mer president’s daugh­ter-in-law, took over the posi­tion as co-chair­peo­ple.
“The RNC has his­tor­i­cal­ly under­gone change once we have a nom­i­nee, and it has always been my inten­tion to hon­or that tra­di­tion,” McDaniel said when she resigned from the posi­tion. “I remain com­mit­ted to win­ning back the White House and elect­ing Repub­li­cans up and down the bal­lot in Novem­ber.”
Since the start of the Biden admin­is­tra­tion, NBC has made moves in hir­ing for­mer gov­ern­ment staffers. The net­work hired Jen Psa­ki, for­mer press sec­re­tary for Pres­i­dent Joe Biden, and Symone D. Sanders, a for­mer chief spokes­woman for Vice Pres­i­dent Kamala Har­ris.

McDaniel will join oth­er Repub­li­can com­men­ta­tors includ­ing Marc Short, one of for­mer Vice Pres­i­dent Mike Pence’s chiefs of staff, and Bren­dan Buck, a for­mer top con­gres­sion­al aide.
Her first appear­ance on the net­work will be Sun­day on Meet the Press with Kris­ten Welk­er. It will be her first inter­view since step­ping down from her posi­tion.
