Biden speaks to New York City mayor after shooting death of police officer

Pres­i­dent Joe Biden has offered his con­do­lences to New York City May­or Eric Adams after police offi­cer Jonathan Diller was shot to death dur­ing a traf­fic stop in Queens, accord­ing to the White House.
Press sec­re­tary Karine Jean-Pierre con­firmed a call between Biden and Adams on Thurs­day, dur­ing which the pres­i­dent con­veyed that Adams, New York City, and the New York Police Depart­ment had his “full sup­port.” Jean-Pierre added that she did not have any “pri­vate com­mu­ni­ca­tions” to share regard­ing Diller’s fam­i­ly “at this time.”
“Our hearts go out, obvi­ous­ly, to the officer’s fam­i­ly and the broad­er NYPD fam­i­ly, who have trag­i­cal­ly lost one of their own,” Jean-Pierre told reporters aboard Air Force One as the pres­i­dent trav­els to New York City. “The pres­i­dent grieves for them and hon­ors their sac­ri­fice.”
