McCaul warns that oust­ing John­son could ‘throw the bal­ance of pow­er’ to Democ­rats

Rep. Mike McCaul (R‑TX) warned against oust­ing House Speak­er Mike John­son (R‑LA), say­ing that such a move could favor Democ­rats.
Last week, Rep. Mar­jorie Tay­lor Greene (R‑GA) moved to vacate John­son. In an appear­ance on CBS News’s Face the Nation on Sun­day, McCaul said the move would hurt Repub­li­cans.
“You know, I think it’s indica­tive that even [Rep.] Matt Gaetz (R‑FL), who was the archi­tect of oust­ing McCarthy, to say, ‘this would be a huge mis­take,’ because it could actu­al­ly throw the bal­ance of pow­er over to [House minor­i­ty leader] Hakeem Jef­fries (D‑NY),” the Texas Repub­li­can said.
