Mace’s seat stays safe as Republicans get huge win in South Carolina fight about gerrymandered maps

Repub­li­cans received a major boost in the race to keep Rep. Nan­cy Mace‘s (R‑SC) seat red after a fed­er­al court ruled in favor of a redis­trict­ing map favor­able to the GOP.
Though the court orig­i­nal­ly ruled that Mace’s dis­trict had been racial­ly ger­ry­man­dered, it decid­ed Thurs­day that the dis­trict could stay in place for the 2024 elec­tion. The three-judge pan­el took up the case after the Supreme Court took too long, rul­ing that although the sit­u­a­tion was not ide­al, a deci­sion had to be made before the state pri­ma­ry.
