Gaetz quips Boebert would make a better House speaker than Johnson

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R‑FL) quipped on Thurs­day that Rep. Lau­ren Boe­bert (R‑CO) would make a bet­ter House speak­er than Speak­er Mike John­son (R‑LA), but he is not call­ing for a motion to vacate John­son.
When asked by reporters whether he thinks some­one could do bet­ter than John­son as speak­er, Gaetz said, “I don’t know,” fol­lowed by, “Ms. Boe­bert could do bet­ter.”
Gaetz’s com­ment comes as Rep. Mar­jorie Tay­lor Greene (R‑GA) weighs whether to move for­ward with her motion to vacate John­son. The con­flict is the lat­est to sur­face with­in the Repub­li­can Par­ty, arriv­ing at a cru­cial time when the House is prepar­ing to vote on a four-bill secu­ri­ty sup­ple­men­tal that pro­vides for­eign aid to Israel, Ukraine, and the Indo-Pacif­ic.
