House Speaker Mike Johnson (R‑LA) reportedly enlisted influencers as part of his push to publicize an election fraud bill alongside former President Donald Trump.
After Johnson and Trump made their pitch on the legislation on Friday, several Republican social media accounts touted the SAVE Act. NBC News reported that Johnson’s office gave several of the accounts background information before the unveiling.
The legislation, which has yet to be filed, would require states to remove noncitizens from voter rolls and require proof of citizenship to vote. In federal elections, only citizens are allowed to vote, but in some elections, noncitizens have been allowed to vote for local offices.
Various accounts on X, including Students for Trump Chairman Ryan Fournier’s, “DC_Draino,” and “End Wokeness,” promoted the legislation as “good news” and implored Congress to pass it.
